Hiking around the Fall brush, I searched for inspiration to bring indoors for a project in Colorado. The famous fall colors of Aspen, Colorado create an elegant palette of golds and reds, yellows, even purples, which inspire much of my work.
Bringing Fall Foliage Indoors
This breathtaking beauty lasts only couple of weeks and each year, it falls on different times, usually around last week of September through the third week of October. The colors of the foliage here in Aspen are incredibly bright and rich due to high altitude and crisp cleanliness of the air. So I had to act quickly to (quite literally) bring the outdoors inside the home with floral arrangements.
To prolong the home’s Fall ambiance, an attempt to give it permanence, we upholstered the sofas and chairs within the same palette and gave them some cozy texture reminiscent of days curled up by the fireplace, while the leaves turned outside. The sun’s lighting is harsh, through the mountain which gives the space incredibly unique lighting throughout the year, but it’s most striking during the Fall. We had to use carefully selected window treatment options throughout the home to protect the textile and woods.
The Aspen light allowed us to use lots of rich colored materials – textured chenille and boiled wool, various leathers and animal skins, and bright silks. The beautiful woods throughout the house are all native to Colorado.
